8 Days Late and $50 Short

OH! Here is my 2008 Survey!! Took me long enough!!!

1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?

Became a mom of 3!

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I was so focused on the “ZOMG I am pregnant and SO.RIDICULOUSLY!sick!” at the turn of 2008 that there were no resolutions. The big one this year is to be healthy. I would like to be thin, but that is not the ultimate goal. I need to take better care of myself. And I think I want to start wearing makeup. I mean, I’m 30. Now is as good of a time as any…

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Well, I did…… also my good friend M.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada, Eh!

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
some time just for me. Like overnight alone time

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
7/29 Liv’s bday

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being able to effectively manage life with a full time job and 3 kids

9. What was your biggest failure?
Oy…I don’t know. I’ve had a lot of little FAILS, you know? Like losing my temper too quickly with the kiddos, having no patience with the hubby etc.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Morning sickness… does birthing a child count as an injury?

11. What was the best thing you bought?
hmmm, don’t remember buying anything for me

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My own, Dawg!! I birthed a child in record time!! And I Twittered it LIVE! Also. Hilary Clinton.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Le sigh…..my mom’s

14. Where did most of your money go?
Daycare, sad to say. And the everlong Kitchen Remodel 2008

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Excited in a terrified sort of way…pregnancy and birth.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
“My Sister, My Right Hand, My Beeeeest friend….Deliver Me”

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? Happier, because I am not miserably pregnant and I have a happy, healthy, chaotic family
b) thinner or fatter? Probably about the same. Fatter than I was before I got pregnant, but about the same as I was last year at 8 or 9 weeks bloated/pregnant
c) richer or poorer? Well, I make more money, but the cost of kid #3 kind of xxx’s it out. So I’ll say it’s a wash.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
I’d have liked to read more. Let’s add that to the 2009 resolutions list, shall we? Read more.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Snapping at people around me when my patience was stretched too thin.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Home and with extended family.

21. Did you fall in love in 2008?
With my new baby girl, yes.

22. What was your favorite TV program?
How I Met Your Mother, Damages, Burn Notice, Breaking Bad (though I had to stop watching because it gave me labor pains—for serious)

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No.

24. What was the best book you read?
I really liked Emily Griffin’s “Something Borrowed” Truthfully, that may have been the only book I finished in 2008. Misty- I am committed to finishing Prodigal Summer this year.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
riiight….The new and improved Wiggles with Sam! Let’s all do the Shimmie Shake!!

26. What did you want and get?
A healthy and happy baby. A new kitchen!

27. What did you want and not get?
a new camera. A fancified one.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
I really enjoyed Burn After Reading. I also watch Knocked Up for the first time and LOVED that. For the record I thought Mama Mia SUCKED.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 30 and sulked. Then I had a surprise party to make up for it.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
a maid; a brand new house

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
bohemian maternity??? I am always better dressed when pregnant than while not pregnant.

32. What kept you sane?
Oh the blog for sure. You guys.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Mmm, Robert Downey Jr. it’s always RD Jr.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Prop. 8 grrrrrr!

35. Who did you miss?
occasionally, my kids. I actually missed work while I was on maternity leave

36. Who was the best new person you met?
My beautiful Hannie bean (uh-oh, name spoiler…OH, LIKE YOU DIDN’T ALREADY KNOW!)

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
3 kids is no big thing (until they are all sick at the same time), if I give in to “keep hub happy” he keeps me happy in turn,

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

?? I can’t answer this one

Friday Free for All- A Tale of Two Memes

Posted on

Yes, I am doing Memes today to take my mind off the crap and the stress a la Sarah. I did have a really nice relaxing night last night though which included all children sleeping before 9, hot chocolate and whipped cream, and being in bed in time to watch Seinfeld at 10.

Favorite Christmas Carol: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings mix by BNL and Sarah McLachlan
Favorite Christmas Cookie: peanut butter blossoms
Favorite Christmas Movie: A Christmas Story—We watch it through Christmas Eve at Hub’s cousin’s house and keep it on at home too.
Favorite Christmas Tradition: Selecting “the perfect ornament” with the kiddos each year (we are going tonight!), our annual Christmas morning Brunch where my parents and Hub’s parents come to eat and exchange gifts
Christmas Dinner: Usually ham, My Aunt Lisa makes an excellent Christmas Dinner every year
Best Childhood Christmas Present: Definitely the original Nintendo. There was one gift left under the tree and it was marked for my mom. She asked my brother and I to open it for her. It.Was.Awesome,
What do you do with Christmas Cards? Up until this year, I put them in this card tree we had, but they always fell out. So I threw it out. I have no idea what I am doing with thme now.
Sitting on Santa’s lap: fun or scary? Scary!!!
What is the best gift you’ve given? Hmmm, I got Hub a TiVo and if that isn’t the gift that keeps on giving, I don’t know what is.
What is your favorite Christmas book? I can’t even think of a Christmas book…..
When did you find out the truth about Santa? I was about 8 and my 5-year-old brother told me. Naïve much?
Where is your favorite place to celebrate Christmas? I like what we do, which is Hub’s family on Christmas Eve, home with the kiddos in the morning, then family brunch, and then my Uncle’s house on Christmas night. I also enjoy “fake Christmas” with my mom’s side of the family.

And now for something completely different……

I saw this over at Pocklock’s Blog and thought it was really interesting. Basically, you ask the Meme poster to assign you a letter, and you write about 10 things you love that begin with that letter. And so I commented, and she assigned me “S”. That being said, if you would like to do this one, leave me a comment, and I will assign you a letter.

So, here I go, 10 things I LOVE that begin with the letter “S”.

1. I love Seinfeld. Seriously, if I had $200 to drop, I would buy the complete series on DVD. My life is peppered with quotes and actions from the series. There are many photos from my wedding of me dancing as Elaine. Oh yes, Seinfeld. I love you. (I would love to receive “Scene It—The Seinfeld Edition” for Christmas)

2. Stern. I love you, Howard Stern.

3. And on the same token, I love my Sirius Satellite Radio. The 90’s alternative station always takes me back to high school.
4. Sebastian, my crazy old cat. He has kept me entertained for the last 8 years. And I love him even though I have to keep my toes tucked in tight under my blanket all night long, for fear that he will think we are playing some sort of crazy, toe biting, night time game. (I love you too, Oswald)
5. Starbucks. There is not a day that could not be made better by a fancy Starbucks drink. My current favorite?? The Peppermint Mocha Twist. Yum.

6. Samantha, my sweet niece.
7. Soup, especially this time of the year. For the record, one of my favorite meals is canned chicken noodle soup and a bologna sandwich on white bread with mayo. The sandwich is, or course, dunked in the soup.
8. Sisters. I don’t actually have a sister, but those that I consider to be my sisters, I loves you muchly.
9. Sleep. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways… (I miss you………)
10. Shot glasses. We have close to 150 in out collection

So there you have it…and wouldn’t you know, I DO feel better. Happy Weekend!!

FINISH THE SENTENCE—stolen from numerous bloggers….

Maybe I should
order a cake for Lucy’s party
I love the smell of coffee brewing in the morning, freshly showered kiddos and the baby’s head
People would say that I am sarcastic and full of dry humor.
I don’t understand why my big ids are suddenly so wild.
I lost my favorite lipstick and found it 2 years later.
Life is way too short and quick
My past involves an alcoholic mother and a strong desire to flee.
My idea of a good time is a comfy hotel bed all to myself with lots of pillows and endless hours of sleep.
I wish Hub didn’t work so much at night.
Twins would be a real handful! But probably pretty great.
Dust bunnies are good friends of mine.
Tomorrow I’m going to go to BJ’s to shop for the party.
I have low tolerance anything that flashes, dings or repetitive noises.
I’m totally terrified of the dark.
I wonder why Bud always has to poop 30 minutes after I put him to bed, regardless of what time it is.
Never in my life have I done any illegal drugs.
High school was actually pretty fun
When I’m nervous I run my mouth.
One time at a family gathering my father fell off our washing machine and broke his leg.
Take my advice: stay in school.
Taking a good picture is better done by someone else.
I’m almost always talkative
I’m addicted to coffee, TLC
I want someone to come and change some diapers, please.

3 weeks

I just liked this one. Bud and Lucy at the park today.

Ok, Carrie tagged me, so here it goes!!

The rules are as follows:
# Link to the person who tagged you
# Post the rules on your blog.
# Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
# Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
# Leave a comment on their blogs so that they know they have been tagged.

1. I am overly freaked out by feet—to a ridiculous extent. It took me years to be able to even touch my husband’s feet, and even now, seeing him barefoot, disgusts me. True story: a friend and I went to a new health club downtown (a few years ago) and took a tae bo-type class upstairs and then headed downstairs where we had signed up for a free martial arts lesson. When I saw all of the naked feet on the mat, I had a panic attack and could not go through with the class. What was worse was that I had to cross the mat with the naked feet in order to leave the building. It was horrifying and I am truly scarred for life from that one. (The exception to my foot issue is my kid’s feet—I have no problem with them at all.)
2. I am mildly obsessive compulsive about a couple of things in my life but none more so than my alarm clock which I obsessively set and reset no fewer than 6 times before bed. It goes a little something like this: set, view to see that time was set correctly, double check to make sure alarm is set to AM and clock shows it is currently PM, turn the alarm off, click it back on and repeat the entire process. Yeah.
3. I can not handle any type opf repetitive noise (think someone tapping their pencil or clicking their pen—or better yet the dinging in your car when you forget your keys or leave your lights on; even the microwave beeping at the end KILLS ME) OR any sort of repetitive blinking (think the light on the answering machine). It seriously takes me over the edge. I may have some sort of mild sensory integration disorder.
4. When I was a kid, I used to practice smiling in the mirror so that I would always look great in photos. Seriously. (It was time well spent though, my wedding photos being proof)
5. I loathe board games and puzzles. The thought of sitting down and going through the motions of any board game, especially monopoly, is worse to me than having to peel off my fingernails one by one. This carries over to all of those crappy kids board games too. (I’m talking to YOU Chutes and Ladders!!!) They actually make me feel claustrophobic and confined—like I’m in a straight jacket. There is one exception though, and it is Scrabble. I love it!!
6. I will only eat Kraft Macaroni and Cheese if it is doused in ketchup. If you haven’t tried it, you should!
7. I pretend to be pretty outgoing—especially at work, but typically I feel out of place and somewhat retarded in social situations. I can always be counted on to say the wrong thing in an awkward moment. In fact, I often create awkward moments.

Umm, here is who I tag:

Emily

Misty

Shelly (if she hasn’t been killed by a rogue realtor)

Bananafana

Mom of the Year
